Weight and Measure Registration Process comes under the supervision of the Department of Legal Metrology of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs.Every device meant for weighing, measuring, or scaling any object in a specific or metric or imperial scale should be registered under Legal Metrology department.No person shall manufacture, import, deal, or repair any weight or measure device without a valid license obtained from the Director of the Legal Metrology Department.Each state has different application fees and different timelines for approvals of the license, whereas the validity for a license is from a one-year minimum to a maximum of five years.The purpose of Weights and Measurement Registration is to make sure that measuring instruments are intact and in working state so that they can serve their intend purpose and meet international standards.The authorized officer must test and verify an instrument for meeting the established standards. Upon verification, a stamp depicting the year and its quarter is placed on every verified instrument.There are three types of licenses given to Manufacturer,Dealer and Repairer.The Weights and Measurement Departments usually takes 30 days to issue a new license or renew an old one as they might even take a survey of your firm/company to check the correctness of the information provided. After that, it’s renewed time to time. If a person does manufacturing without getting the proper legal authorization, he/she may get penalty or even imprisonment depending over the nature of crime done. So, one shall get their works legalized so as to avoid further issues.
